The Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly held its Second Ordinary General Assembly Meeting on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the Kodie Methodist Church Auditorium. The meeting focused on the Mid-Year Review of the 2026 Composite Budget and Annual Action Plan, as well as key development and governance issues affecting the district.
Major concerns raised included security challenges and violence involving rival youth groups in some communities. Several communities were identified as security hotspots, and the matter was referred to the relevant security agencies for intervention.
The Assembly also discussed the need to improve revenue mobilisation, particularly through property rates and building permit fees. Measures being considered include engaging property owners directly and establishing service points in communities to make payment of rates and access to building permit services easier.
Sanitation was another major issue, with 66 workers engaged to clean the Central Business District. The Assembly also reported on the distribution of waste bins and the procurement of additional bins.
Assembly Members raised concerns about overcrowding on school buses and called for improved transportation arrangements for students. They also appealed for motorbikes to help them effectively perform their duties in their electoral areas.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) also educated participants on electricity consumption, billing, tariff increases, power outages, and the proper channels for obtaining electricity meters. Consumers were encouraged to adopt responsible energy-use practices and use authorised ECG channels for electricity services.
In closing, Assembly Members were urged to remain committed to their responsibilities and work closely with the Assembly’s management, security agencies, and other stakeholders to address challenges and promote sustainable development in the Afigya Kwabre South District.
