DCE COMMISSIONS 5-UNIT KG COMPLEX

The District Chief Executive [DCE] for Afigya Kwabre South, Hon. Christian Adu-Poku together with the District Education Director, Mr. David Akomea Asokwa, on Tuesday, 15th October, 2024 commissioned an ultra-modern 5-unit Methodist KG complex at a handover ceremony held at Kodie.

In attendance for the occasion were staff of the District Assembly and the Education Directorate, Honourable Assembly members, teachers and pupils of the Methodist school and Nananom of Kodie Traditional Council.

Mr. Akomea Asokwa addressing the gathering commended Nananom for honouring the invitation amidst their tight schedule making the occasion very unique. He cautioned teachers against laxity and avoid browsing their mobile phones to the neglect of their duties. He deplored such attitudes and vowed to deal with the recalcitrant ones pointing out it demeans the teaching profession.

The Guest Speaker, Rev. Augustine Mensah, the outgone Kodie Methodist Church Head Pastor, noted Ghanaians don’t have to depend on the government for every aid but should take initiatives to improve their living conditions themselves. He stated that one should not look back if God lays upon one’s life to pursue a goal. Rev. Mensah disclosed when he found out the school lacked canteen, though he was on transfer, he took the initiative to construct one but faced initial objection from a committee. However, he got the green light from Nananom and the project was executed which was later converted to a classroom to accommodate the KG pupils.
According to him, the DCE and the Education Director are answering Divine call for the welfare of the pupils and lauded them for a good job. He urged the teachers to be more productive to achieve the set-goals for the pupils they are our future leaders.

The Chairman for the event, Nana Kwadwo Agyei, the Akwamuhene of Kodie Traditional Council was full of praises for the DCE and the government in the completion of the school. Nana disclosed the project started during former President John Agyekum Kuffour’s era and was abandoned till Hon. Christian Adu-Poku assumed office to complete it after persistent complaints by the Traditional Council. He called for good maintenance culture of both the block and the equipment provided for the school.

For his part, Hon. Adu-Poku bemoaned the deplorable situation he found the school when he assumed office which was also a source of worry to Kodie citizens. He revealed it was one of the major concerns of Nananom anytime they called on him. He recalled the area was a football field some years back but with the increase in pupils’ population, there was the need to convert it into a classroom block.

The Chief Executive further disclosed former President John Agyekum Kuffour wanted it as a model school to be named as Jubilee KG but was abandoned six months after NPP lost the 2008 election until he assumed office. He stated it took a tremendous effort to actualize the construction of the facility. He said the school has been equipped with modern facilities and charged the District Education Director to supervise the use of the classroom blocks for it to last long to ensure their intended purposes.

Hon. Adu-Poku used the occasion to highlight about seventeen projects executed and ongoing ones since his appointment as the Chief Executive for the district.
