The Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly held its First Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of the First Session on Friday 21st June, 2024 at Kodie Methodist Church.
The Assembly led by the Hon. Presiding Member, Mr. Clement Afriyie-Oppong, started with an opening prayer followed by his opening remarks where he welcomed members present while he acknowledged the absence of few members. The Hon. District Chief Executive, Christian Adu-Poku delivered his sessional address followed by a presentation of Executive Committee report which underwent for discussion.
Topics which came under debate included the Security situation in the district which was described as relatively calm. The Economic Development and Infrastructure according to the DCE, had made remarkable strides with several projects underway to enhance the living conditions of the residents. It came to light the Modern Office Complex for the Assembly had reached its final stages and might be commissioned upon its completion. Other areas discussed were Education and Youth Empowerment, the Health and Sanitation sector with the on-going construction of District Hospital nearing completion at Atrama under the Agenda 111 initiative.
Agriculture and Food Security, Governance and Community Participation as well as the Challenges facing the Assembly rounded off the day’s deliberation. Hon. Adu-Poku raised concerns over the collection of Internally Generated Funds (IGF) emphasizing on the rampant fraudulent deals amongst revenue collectors and hinted measures were in place to curb the menace very soon. Some major resolutions were passed by the Assembly including the destruction of farm crops at some cemeteries within two weeks and the adoption of the payment of ex-gratia to past Assembly Members before the year ends.
The DCE, in his closing address, took the opportunity to express his appreciation for the numerous support given him by the Honorable members, traditional leaders, development partners as well as the entire citizenry and assured them of a continued harmonious relationship for the betterment of the district. According to him, they have laid a formidable foundation for a brighter future for which he sought the co-operation of members to work hand in hand with determined efforts to transform the district into a pattern of advancement and success.
The PM, Hon. Afriyie-Oppong in his concluding remarks, also expressed his gratitude to the Honorable Members and declared his commitment to champion the cause of their concerns.
