The Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly has successfully completed Phase One of its Community Engagement and Accountability Tour, an initiative aimed at promoting transparency, strengthening citizen participation, and enhancing collaboration between the Assembly and residents.
The first phase of the engagement, which was held between 22nd June and 15th July 2026, covered several communities across the district. The tour provided a platform for residents, traditional leaders, Assembly Members, and community stakeholders to interact directly with Assembly officials, receive updates on development projects, and share concerns affecting their communities.
The programme was organised in line with the principles of local governance, which encourage Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to engage regularly with citizens to promote accountability, gather feedback, and incorporate community concerns into development planning.
During the engagements, the Assembly presented updates on key achievements and ongoing projects implemented across various sectors. Residents were informed about improvements in administrative operations, including the refurbishment of Assembly offices and the provision of office furniture and equipment to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
In the area of infrastructure development, the Assembly highlighted ongoing and completed projects in education, healthcare, water and sanitation, security, and economic development. These included the construction and renovation of classroom blocks, provision of desks and learning materials to schools, construction of health facilities, improvement of water access through mechanised borehole projects, sanitation interventions, and security-related infrastructure.
The Assembly also highlighted support provided to vulnerable groups, particularly Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), through financial assistance, livelihood support, and the provision of essential items to improve their wellbeing and economic independence.
Residents were educated on the importance of revenue mobilisation, including the payment of property rates and other internally generated funds, which contribute to financing development projects and supporting the operations of the Assembly. The Physical Planning Department also sensitised residents on the need to obtain building permits and comply with planning regulations to promote orderly development.
The Agriculture Department engaged farmers on improved farming practices, extension services, disease and pest control, and government agricultural programmes designed to increase productivity and improve livelihoods.
The engagement sessions also provided residents with the opportunity to raise concerns affecting their communities. Key issues highlighted included poor road networks, inadequate educational and health facilities, water supply challenges, sanitation concerns, security issues, and the need for improved community infrastructure.
The Assembly assured residents that all concerns raised would be considered in future planning and development interventions. The District Chief Executive reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to working with traditional authorities, community leaders, and residents to address challenges and ensure equitable development across the district.
Traditional leaders and residents commended the Assembly for creating a platform for direct engagement and accountability. They expressed their commitment to supporting the Assembly’s development agenda and working together towards improving the living conditions of residents.
The successful completion of Phase One of the Community Engagement and Accountability Tour demonstrates the Assembly’s commitment to participatory governance, responsive leadership, and sustainable development within the Afigya Kwabre South District.
