On Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the Church of Pentecost, Afrancho, the Afigya Kwabre South District began its second day of the inauguration of Unit Committee members and Area Councilors. Fifty-five Committee members and fifteen Area Councilors were sworn in to oversee the development of their respective electoral areas.
Following similar procedures the previous day at Kodie, departmental heads, the Security and spokesperson for the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) outlined their areas of specifications and the impact created by them on the citizenry. The District Police Commander received a loud ovation after disclosing the intended steps being undertaken by his outfit to combat the activities of the infamous Q-Net operators in the district.
He lamented over the rampant acts of stealing at new sites, street robbery incidents and unwarranted fights in the society warning such anti-social tendencies would equally be dealt with.
In his address, the District Chief Executive, Hon Christian Adu-Poku expressed discontent over the situation whereby traditional leaders have deliberately allowed their citizens to put up infrastructures at quarry sites and described it as a great threat and hindrance to the development of the district. He disclosed quarry industries in the communities serve as a major source of contribution to the development of the district and warned those involved to desist from such acts.
The DCE advised the traditional leaders to rather engage in a mutual agreement with potential owners of quarry industries to acquire some shares to develop their communities instead of seeking short-term personal benefits.
At the occasion, Hon. Evans Worae received unanimous approval from all the Area Council members to be elected as their Chairman. Assembly members present at the function were beneficiaries of street bulbs distributed by the DCE while People With Disabilities (PWDs)went home with thousands of Ghana cedis for their upkeep.
