AKSDA SWEARS IN UNIT COMMITTEE MEMBERS FOR KODIE AREA COUNCIL

The Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly has begun a one-week inauguration of Unit Committee Members and Area Councilors elected from the electoral areas within the district. Selected communities to witness such ceremonies included Kodie, Afrancho, Atimatim, Swedru, and Ankaase.
The inaugural swearing-in ceremony held on Wednesday, 20th March 2024 at the Kodie Methodist Church was led by the District Coordinating Director, Mrs. Yvonne Naboo where 19-Unit Committee members and fourteen Area Councilors took the oath of office.
In his maiden address, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Christian Adu Poku urged the members to be circumspect in the discharge of their duties. He stressed the importance of working together as one body with the sole aim of achieving positive results for the development of their communities. He referred to the Local Government Act 963, emphasizing the need for them to work diligently per the laws of the country.
Dwelling on the program’s agenda, “Strengthening Local Government Sub-structures and Showcasing Government Development Projects in Afigya Kwabre South District” the DCE noted their responsibilities entail hard work under the Assembly’s vision. He advised the new members particularly, the Area Councilors to share ideas with their communities to assess the challenges facing them to assist in the development of their areas. He reminded them to always liaise between their communities and the Assembly members to establish cordial relationships to make their work easy. He congratulated them and pointed out that their performance would be evaluated by their electorates.
The Honorable used the occasion to roll out the development projects executed and the ongoing ones by the Assembly. He sought the co-operation and support of the affluent and corporate bodies for the accelerated development of the district adding, that it is an arduous task for the Assembly alone to carry the task.
Earlier, heads of various departments in the district assembly, the Security, and a representative of the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) had taken turns to expound their functions.
In his presentation, the Chief of Apagya, Nana Owusu Peprah II, accused politicians of subtly but clandestinely seeking support and blessings from traditional leaders and the communities in pursuit of their political ambition but would never return the kind gestures rendered them when they attained their goals. According to him, such politicians would only be seen in their electoral areas during the election period and advised the newly -elected New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate, Damata Ama Appianimaa Salam to refrain from towing the same line but to pay frequent visits to her constituency if voted into power.
Hon.Tony Nyantakyi was unanimously elected as Chairman of the Area Councilors. Some street bulbs were shared among the Assembly members while sums of money running into thousands of Ghana Cedis were disbursed to People With Disabilities (PWDs) by the District Chief Executive.
