The Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly on Thursday, October 23, 2025, held its First Ordinary Assembly Meeting at the Kodie Methodist Church Auditorium.
The meeting was attended by the Member of Parliament for the Afigya Kwabre South Constituency, Hon. Damata Appianima Salam; the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Patricia Pearl Ankrah; the Presiding Member, Hon. Gyasi Danso; Assembly Members; and staff of the District Assembly.
The session provided a platform for deliberations on key developmental and governance issues, reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to effective local governance and community development.
Chaired by the Presiding Member, Hon. Gyasi Danso, the meeting commenced with the presentation of agenda items, which included discussions on the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report, approval of the Fee-Fixing Resolution, Composite Budget and Annual Action Plan, as well as the introduction of the new District Coordinating Director, Mr. Baba Seidu Kamara Yakubu.
In her address, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Patricia Pearl Ankrah, expressed her appreciation to Assembly Members, staff, and the people of Afigya Kwabre South for their continued cooperation and support.
Security
On security, the DCE reported that the district remains calm and stable. She commended the Ghana Police Service, Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and NADMO for their collaborative efforts in maintaining peace and security.
Economic Development and Infrastructure
Hon. Ankrah highlighted progress in economic development and infrastructure, including the construction of modern markets and police stations to boost economic activities. She emphasized the significance of quarry operations and other local revenue sources to the Assembly’s Internally Generated Funds (IGF). Between August and September 2025, the Assembly generated GHC 71,624.00, representing 20 percent of the projected IGF of GHC 358,120.00.
Education
In the education sector, the DCE reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to improving access to quality education through the construction of classroom blocks across various communities. She also mentioned ongoing technical and vocational skills training programmes for the youth, alongside social support initiatives for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
Health and Sanitation
On health, Hon. Ankrah disclosed that essential medical equipment has been supplied to health facilities in the district, with CHPS compounds under construction at Odumakyi and Ntribuoho. She added that sanitation improvement efforts, including community clean-up exercises and the evacuation of refuse dumps, are being intensified to promote healthy living.
Agriculture
Touching on agriculture, the DCE noted that the Assembly has rolled out extension service programmes to support farmers. She also indicated that partnerships with the private sector are ongoing to improve food storage during harvest seasons to enhance food security. She announced that the 2025 District Farmers’ Day celebration would be hosted at Mpobi.
Governance and Community Participation
The DCE stressed the importance of good governance and community participation, highlighting continuous engagements with traditional authorities and residents to ensure transparency and accountability. She expressed concern over the encroachment on designated sanitation sites and directed the District Planning Officer to issue letters to traditional leaders to ensure proper site planning.
Concerns were raised regarding the utilization of DRIP machines within the district. Responding to the concerns, the DCE explained that limited funds have constrained the full operation of the machines and appealed to communities to support financially when the equipment is required. She added that current usage prioritizes communities with extensive farming activities, including Mpobi.
The operations of quarry companies and their contributions to local development were also discussed. Hon. Ankrah stated that the Assembly is engaging quarry operators to ensure their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives benefit host communities.
Addressing the meeting, the Member of Parliament, Hon. Damata Appianima Salam, supported concerns about the DRIP machines and proposed the establishment of a committee to coordinate requests, manage operations, and determine appropriate community contributions.
