The DCE of the Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly, Hon. Adu Poku Christian (APC) has urged Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to put into worthy use, the support the government offered them to better their lots instead of spending lavishly.
He said, it is government’s policy to support and empower them to mitigate the vulnerability they face to improve their livelihood. He advised the potential disable persons to always liaise
with the Assembly Members in their electoral areas when in need of government support.
Hon (APC) made the remarks during the presentation of items, provision of medical and educational support, settlement obligations as well as startup capital to grow their businesses to be able to cater for their family members.
A total amount of Forty-Eight Thousand, Five and Eighty-Five Ghana Cedis (Gh¢ 48,585.00) was disbursed whiles 10 wheel chairs were also presented.
The newly transferred District Social Welfare and Community Development Officer, Mr Cheslyn Nutsugah in his submission, asked to be accorded the same support given to his predecessor, Mrs Ayishatu Mohammed to improve on the task ahead. He disclosed that there are guidelines to safeguard the use of the fund provided them, adding that the support would be spread to cover all destitutes in the district but in batches due to their large number.
The chairman of the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) Association of the Afigya Kwabre South District, John Asamoah commended the government and the Assembly for their continuous support and called on the members to come together to help in the projection of their cause.
He also advised his colleagues and beneficiaries by being productive and to desist from begging in the streets.
In attendance were the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Andrews Mensah, the District Finance Officer, Mr Baiden, the District Budget Analyst among other Officers and General Staff.
