AKSDA marked the 41st edition of Farmers’ Day on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Mpobi, under the national theme “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.” The celebration honoured hardworking farmers whose efforts continue to play a vital role in ensuring food security and national development.
The event brought together farmers, traditional authorities, Assembly staff and residents of the district. In attendance were the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Patricia Pearl Ankrah; representatives of the Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre South; staff of the District Assembly; and traditional leaders (Nananom). The ceremony was chaired by Nana Okotwasa Owusu Sarpong, Chief of Mpobi.
Addressing the gathering, the District Director of Agriculture, Mr. Peter Anim, urged Ghanaians to actively engage in farming as a sustainable means of reducing food importation and strengthening the national economy. He emphasized the importance of every household cultivating at least a small farm to boost food production.

Mr. Anim also highlighted the “Nkoko Nkete” poultry project, explaining that chicks under the programme will be supplied strictly to committed poultry farmers within the district. According to him, the farmers will raise the birds to a certain stage before they are redistributed to registered beneficiaries. He further expressed concern over uncontrolled sand winning and the sale of agricultural lands, warning that such practices could threaten the country’s food security in the near future.
Representing the Member of Parliament, Rev. Amoasi, the NPP Constituency Chairman, commended farmers for their dedication and immense contribution to national development. He disclosed that upon her return, the MP, Hon. Damata Appianima Salam, would meet farmers across all electoral areas to listen to their concerns and present additional awards to motivate them.

In her address, the DCE, Hon. Patricia Pearl Ankrah, emphasized the collective responsibility of citizens to engage in farming to ensure food availability and support the Eat Ghana agenda. She noted that the theme “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future” reflects the government’s vision of achieving food sufficiency and sustainability. She assured farmers of the Assembly’s continued support through the provision of farm tools, fertilizers, wells and other essential inputs to enhance agricultural productivity within the district.

The highlight of the ceremony was the award of the Overall Best Farmer for the Afigya Kwabre South District to Mr. Peter Ofori Amanfo. His prize package included one tricycle, one knapsack sprayer, a pair of Wellington boots, two cutlasses, one 50kg bag of SOA fertilizer, two bottles of foliar fertilizer, and one box of weedicides.

The celebration concluded with expressions of gratitude to farmers for their unwavering commitment to feeding the nation and sustaining livelihoods.
