DCE EMBARKS ON WORKING VISIT TO QUARRY SITES IN THE DISTRICT

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Patricia Pearl Ankrah, together with a team of officials from the District Assembly, paid a working visit to several quarry sites within the District on Friday, June 13, 2025. The visit aimed to afford the team a firsthand understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing these vital industries in their day-to-day operations.

Seven companies hosted the delegation, including K.K. Quarry, Brosa Minerals, Modern Granite, ESM Co. Ltd, World Cool Stone Quarry Ltd, Adututu Quarry, and KAS Products Ltd.

During interactions with management teams at the sites, Hon. Ankrah emphasized the importance of maintaining close collaboration with the District Assembly. She assured the companies of the Assembly’s continued support, acknowledging the significant role they play in the socio-economic development of the district.

While commending the companies for maintaining clean and orderly environments, the DCE expressed concern over the apparent lack of adequate safety materials in some of the operations. She urged the companies to prioritize occupational health and safety standards to safeguard their workforce.

Hon. Ankrah also appealed to community members to engage constructively with the quarry operators, encouraging mutual collaboration and peaceful coexistence to promote the district’s overall development.

In response, the quarry operators shared various operational challenges, with land encroachment cited as a major concern threatening their sustainability. They appealed to the Assembly to intervene and help devise lasting solutions that would protect their interests and ensure long-term industrial peace.

At KAS Products Ltd, the manager revealed that the company was the first quarry established in the district, having operated for over 20 years. He highlighted the company’s numerous contributions to local development, including welfare initiatives and support to surrounding communities.

The visit forms part of the Assembly’s broader effort to strengthen partnerships with the private sector and create a more enabling environment for industrial growth and community development.
