The Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly has provided cash grants and livelihood equipment to eighty-seven persons with disabilities (PWDs) under the Disability Fund of the District Assembly Common Fund, as part of efforts to promote economic independence and social inclusion in the district.
The presentation ceremony, held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, brought together beneficiaries from various communities within the district. The support package included cash allocations, sewing machines, deep freezers and refrigerators to enable recipients to start or expand small-scale businesses and improve their living conditions.
While some beneficiaries are expected to invest the support in trading and farming activities, others will use the assistance to meet urgent health and educational needs, in line with the objectives of the Disability Common Fund.
Speaking at the event, the District Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Mr. Cheslyn Nutsugah, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining social protection programmes aimed at reducing the vulnerability of persons with disabilities and enhancing their livelihoods. He explained that the increased number of beneficiaries this year resulted from an extensive registration exercise conducted across all communities to ensure that no eligible person was excluded.

Mr. Nutsugah expressed confidence that the intervention would help reduce street begging in the municipality, stressing that the resources provided are adequate to support beneficiaries to become self-reliant if used responsibly.
The District Chief Executive, Madam Patricia Pearl Ankrah, encouraged beneficiaries to appreciate the support and put it to productive use instead of focusing on challenges associated with unemployment. She urged them to remain focused, ambitious and patient as they build their enterprises, noting that discipline and perseverance are essential for long-term economic stability.

Madam Ankrah reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to inclusive development and pledged continued support for initiatives that empower persons with disabilities to live dignified and independent lives.
The Disability Common Fund is a statutory allocation aimed at promoting economic empowerment, reducing poverty and ensuring the full participation of persons with disabilities in local development processes.
