As part of the government’s initiative to boost youth participation in agriculture and aquaculture, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya Kwabre South, Hon. Patricia Pearl Ankrah, together with the Head of the Business Advisory Centre, Miss Phyllis Opare, distributed 41 fishing start-up kits to young beneficiaries on Thursday, 26th February 2026, at the District Assembly premises.
The initiative aims to equip and support the youth to engage in productive fishing activities. Hon. Ankrah urged beneficiaries to take proper care of the equipment and ensure that the kits are effectively utilized.
She emphasized that tackling youth unemployment remains a key priority for the District Assembly and highlighted that the fishing start-up programme would create jobs and improve livelihoods among young people in the district. Hon. Ankrah further assured beneficiaries that fish farming is a profitable venture capable of generating substantial income.
According to Hon. Ankrah, this distribution marks the first phase of the programme, with a second phase expected to be rolled out in the near future.
