NHIA Kwabre District Manager Pays Courtesy Call on DCE

The newly-appointed District Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) for Kwabre, Mr. Ken Rosely, on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, paid a courtesy call on the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Pearl Patricia Ankrah, at her office as part of his official familiarisation tour of the district.

The visit aimed to formally introduce himself and explore areas of collaboration between the NHIA and the Kwabre District Assembly.

During the engagement, Mr. Rosely reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the partnership between the two institutions. He assured the DCE of his dedication to delivering quality service in the discharge of his duties. He also outlined several challenges facing the implementation of health insurance policies in the district. Among these were concerns about the co-payment system, which he described as unacceptable. He urged health facilities to educate patients on the actual cost of services, disclosing that approximately 5,000 individuals are currently benefiting from free healthcare services under the NHIA.

Mr. Rosely also highlighted issues such as the improper management and ownership of medical folders, particularly in government health facilities, and emphasized the need for strict adherence to NHIA protocols. He pledged to make available the official list of medicines that are covered and not covered by the scheme to improve transparency and understanding among service providers and beneficiaries. He further shared his strategic vision for increasing enrolment in the district, in line with the broader objectives of the NHIA.

The District Health Nursing Officer, Mrs. Rosemary Owusu, echoed some of the concerns raised, noting that the cost of certain medications often exceeds what is covered by the insurance scheme. She called for increased collaboration to address such disparities.

Hon. Pearl Patricia Ankrah welcomed Mr. Rosely to the district and assured him of the Assembly’s full support. She underscored her administration’s commitment to a collaborative approach in strengthening healthcare delivery in the district. The DCE pledged to provide office infrastructure to support the NHIA’s operations, noting that residents currently travel long distances to locations like Mamponteng and Bantama to access NHIA services. She tasked Mr. Rosely with working to establish a district NHIA office at Kodie to improve accessibility and increase enrolment, stating that such a move could be a lasting legacy of his tenure.

In her concluding remarks, Hon. Ankrah called for mechanised, well-maintained offices, the enforcement of laws against co-payment through community education, and a review of the current system to enhance efficiency and service delivery.

Also present at the meeting were the District Coordinating Director, Mrs. Yvonne Naboo, and Heads of Departments.
