The Afigya Kwabre South District Education Directorate successfully held its maiden inter-circuit art and culture festival on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Methodist School Park in Kodie, the district capital. The event brought together selected schools across the district in a vibrant display of cultural dance, traditional games such as ampe, and exhibitions of indigenous artifacts aimed at promoting artistic expression and preserving the district’s rich cultural heritage.
In her welcome address, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Pearl Patricia Ankrah, urged students to remain obedient and respectful towards their teachers, stressing that discipline and guidance are key to shaping a successful future. Quoting from the Bible, she emphasized the importance of obeying parents and elders, and expressed concern over the growing trend of students confronting teachers, particularly on social media, which she described as unacceptable.

Hon. Ankrah also addressed female students, cautioning them against anti-social behaviors, especially unwanted pregnancies, which she noted could derail their academic and career aspirations. She encouraged all students to stay focused on their studies, assuring them that discipline and submission to authority would benefit not only themselves but also their families and the nation.
District Director of Education, Mr. David Akomea Asokwa, commended the initiative and called on parents to play more active roles in cultural and educational activities. He criticized the rising influence of harmful social practices among children, attributing much of it to parental neglect. Citing inappropriate dress codes observed during the ampe performance, he called on parents to provide suitable attire for such events and to instill in their children a sense of cultural appropriateness.

Mr. Asokwa further announced that students would participate in a similar event in another district the following week and appealed to parents to support the initiative by allowing their wards to attend rehearsals.
The event concluded with colorful performances that reflected the vibrant cultural diversity of the district and underscored the importance of preserving Ghana’s cultural values through education and community participation.
