DCE AWARDS COVID-19 FRONTLINE WORKERS IN THE DISTRICT

The District Chief Executive of Afigya Kwabre South District has awarded 43 healthcare professionals for the incredible work during the COVID-19 pandemic in the District. The ceremony was held on the 17th of July, 2023 at the Kodie Methodist Church.

In attendance were Hon. Adu Poku Christian, the DCE, Mr. Andrews Mensah, the District Coordinating Director, Madam Christiana Asubonteng, the District Health Director, Nananom, Healthcare professionals across the District, Staff of the Assembly and the Media.

The Chairman for the ceremony, Nana Boakye Yiadom Karikari II in his welcome address congratulated the Health Directorate and all Health professionals for their hard work and selfless service for the people of Afigya Kwabre South during the period of the COVID pandemic. He also commended the Government and the DCE for the awards.

Madam Christiana Asubonteng, the District Health Director and an awardee, in her speech expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the government for acknowledging their tireless efforts and hard work during the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Madam Christiana underscored some challenges, lessons and successes during the pandemic. She added that, in spite of the numerous challenges health workers faced, they committed themselves to support communities with the promotion of healthcare service.

 

Madam Christiana congratulated all awardees for their commitment and appreciated all Healthcare workers for their support towards improving healthcare in the District.

The DCE, Hon. Adu Poku Christian on his part commended the Health workers for their relentless effort. He stated that, the awards were been presented to them on behalf of the President to honor them for their distinguished service, leadership, passion, commitment, hard work and sacrifice to save lives and help the nation during the peak of COVID-19 pandemic.

He acknowledged the sacrifices made by these exceptional individuals and applauded their courage in the face of adversity, their determination to save lives and commitment towards the healthcare system in Ghana.

Hon. Adu Poku however expressed his displeasure about the current rise in the emigration of nurses to high-income countries. Stressing that, it was a threat to our Health sector. He then encouraged nurses to stay and contribute to the development on the nation’s health sector.

In all, 43 healthcare professionals across the District as frontline workers during the COVID-19 were honoured.
