The Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly in collaboration with the Offinso Forest District joined the rest of the country on Friday 9th of June, 2023 to plant trees as part of activities to mark this year’s Green Ghana Day with the theme Our Forest, Our Health.
The celebration was held at the forecourt of the District Assembly and was graced by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Christian Adu Poku, Nananom, Forestry Commission, Staff of the Ghana Education Service, Staff of the District Assembly, Clergy, Farmers, Media and individuals who were also interested in planting trees.
The program was chaired by Nana Owusu Peprah II, the Apagyahene. He started his opening remarks by commending the Government for launching this initiative and admonished the people to rally behind the Government to achieve its goal of safeguarding Ghana’s forest cover and environment.
Mr. George Amoah from the Offinso Forest District also continued with the purpose of the gathering. He stated that the initiative was part of Government’s aggressive afforestation and reforestation programme to restore the degraded landscape and by so doing, the Government’s target for the year was to plant at least 10 million tree seedlings across the country.
Hon. Christian Adu Poku, the DCE in his address also urged the people gathered to cultivate the habit of planting trees and ensure its growth by monitoring it to help restore the greenery nature of our environment so mankind will continue to live.
He added that, the Offinso Forest District had provided the Assembly with 3,000 mahogany seedlings, 100 mango seedlings, 100 guava seedlings, 200 coconut seedlings and 100 oil palm seedlings to be planted within the District.
The tree planting exercise began at the Assembly’s Office Complex and continued with the team going round the District to plant the seedlings.
