The Afigya Kwabre South District on Monday, 6th of March, 2023 celebrated the 66th Independence Day on the theme “OUR UNITY, OUR STRENGTH, and PURPOSE” at Kodie School Park with a colourful parade.
In attendance were the DCE, Hon. Adu Poku Christian, Honorable Assembly Members, Nananom, a cross section of Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly staff, staff of Ghana Education Service in the District, Security Agencies, the Ambulance Service, the Clergy, Contingents of various Schools, the Media Houses, Community Members of Kodie and students in general.
The District Chief Executive, Hon. Adu Poku Christian in his speech expressed that he was highly honoured and privileged to address this important commemorative gathering and made known to the public that, the theme for the celebration is centered on need to promote unity, strength and purpose for ourselves as Ghanaians. He added that, Ghana is much admired to be the beacon of hope of democracy and economic gateway of Africa for that matter, there was the need to use the celebration platform to remind ourselves the need to uphold unity, which has become our strength and pride whiles we forge ahead with one purpose to make the nation great and forever live in peaceful co-existence in spite of our political religious and ethnic differences.
Hon. Adu Poku continued to highlight some of the NPP government’s achievement in the District. He made mention of the Agenda 111 District Hospital at Atrama which is now at an appreciable level within one year of sod cutting, various school buildings that have been completed in the District, the impact of Free SHS to many parents and the reduction of fuel prices in the country. The construction of the Aduman Bridge and the completion of the District Assembly’s Block were not left out.
The DCE promised the people that, with the help of our Member of Parliament, Hon. Owuraku Aidoo, they will have the Afrancho – Ntiri- Buoho, Sasa – Buoho, Afrancho – Achiase, Maase -Atimatim – Pankrono, and Bronkong – Red park roads would be constructed within 18 months by a Chinese Company.
He concluded by using the opportunity to congratulate the immediate past BECE candidates for gaining admission into the various Senior High Secondary Schools across the length and breadth of the country and expressed his gratitude to all the sponsors whose donation and support made the celebration a success.
The celebration was graced with musical interlude and cultural performance as well as a vibrant and patriotic match past by Contingents of various schools.
All participating schools were given certificates but at end of match past, Kodie Methodist J.H.S was adjudged winner, whilst Kodie D/A J.H S and Aduman D/A J.H.S took the second and third positions respectively.
In a brief closing remarks, the chairman of the programme, Nana Yaw Barimah Pepra ll expressed gratitude to the anniversary committee for choosing Kodie to host this great celebration.
Nana Yaw Barimah urged for unity and peaceful coexistence among the political parties, Chiefs, religious leaders and citizens in the District.
