A five day hazard mapping exercise was undertaken by the operations department in the above communities, from18th to 22nd of July 2022 at Atrama, Brofoyedru, Edwinase and Maase,
The sole purpose of this hazard mapping was to identify structures that were in bad shape and could collapse at any moment in time and also fuel stations and quarry sites that were not adhering to safety measures.
Potential Hazards Identified:
- Some houses were identified with cracks and was in bad shape
- A lot of abandon old structures that were not completed and needs to be renovated.
- Expose wires were identified in some houses
- Poor wooden poles used in connecting electricity to some structures and houses.
- Improper layout of some communities that can hinder emergency services from getting easy access to such places.
- Some buildings were sited at waterlog and flood prone areas.
- Some buildings were totally out of shape and may require demolishing in the near future.
Recommendations & Actions Taken:
- Invitations and Summons were issued out to some defaulters to report to the NADMO secretariat.
- Some of the offenders were made to do the right thing, after a sound warning hard been given to them
- The teams took time to educate some residents of the consequences of their activities
- Some Landlords/ladies were made to sign undertakings at the secretariat to renovated their houses in a stipulated time
- Advices were given to some occupants to vacate the premises if the landlord or ladies do not fix their houses for their own safety
- With the aid and assistance of the District Assembly some unauthorized structures were demolished.
