The Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly held a Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, 1st November, 2022 to convene a security-conscious confab at the Bethel Methodist church at Kodie to enlighten the Public in the wake of global threat on terrorism and measures to combat them.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Summoned at the instance of the Ashanti Regional Directorate of National Signal Bureau. (NSB) the meeting was intended to build a covered aspect of human capital on security awareness for the Public to champion the cause to fight against the scourge.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Participants at the forum includes the DCE, Hon. Christian Adu-Poku, District Coordinating Director Andrews Mensah, DISEC Members, Heads of Department, Managers of Community Information Centres in the District, Traditional Authorities and Unit Committee Members.<\/div>\n
Speaking under the topic “National Security and National Framework for Countering Violent Extremism” The Head of I.T in the Assembly, Mr Alex Eshun emphasized on the prevalent mobile money fraud and WhatsApp hacking, which has been a major concern. He also mentioned scrap dealers roaming residential areas with least attention paid to their presence, pointing out such characters might be agents.<\/div>\n
Mr. Eshun intimated modern globalization technology has positive and negative impact on security. On positive aspect he said, it has helped in running successful business transaction world wide but on the other hand, instances of acts of terrorism have emerged, citing Nigeria and Somalia.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Guest Speaker, Col. Kofi Arthur (RTD) Ashanti Regional Security Laison Officer, in his submission stated the role of National Security in the Constitution involving internal and external threat citing Bawku crisis as a case in point when came under curfew. The Security Officer pointed out the policy was to maintain peace. Col. Arthur averted that, the essence of seeking proper personal security measures is an avenue which could prolong one’s life span.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Hon APC commended all stakeholders for their time and urged them to be security alert and vigilant at all times. He cited some advanced countries like Germany and United Kingdom where vigilance is keenly observed by the citizens but regrettably, Ghanaian display apathy in security related matters.<\/div>\n
The Hon. called on the Public not to shirk their responsibilities towards their own safety instead of always depending on the government regarding their personal security.<\/div>\n
