The Afigya Kwabre South District Chief Executive, Hon. Christian Adu-Poku led some Assembly Members, Staff of the Assembly and other dignitaries from the district on Friday,7th June,2024 to plant trees at the Owabi Cee Eco-Tourism and Entertainment Center at Aduamoa as part of the national tree planting day known as the Green Ghana Day.<\/div>\n

The district targeted to plant over two thousand seedlings out of the 2.5million seedlings allotted to Ashanti Region.<\/div>\n
Addressing the participants, Hon. Adu-Poku who spoke under the theme, “Growing For a Greener Tomorrow”, stressed the need for Ghanaians to protect the environment by planting more trees to serve as vegetation cover and leave them as legacy for future generation.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

He said water could become scarce in the nearest future as a result of environmental degradation and climate change and warned if care was not taken the country would find it difficult to get water for domestic consumption in the next decade.<\/div>\n
The DCE extolled Afigya Kwabre South District for being one of the few districts in the country where galamsey is completely banned and entreated the citizens to make the care of the environment their number one priority.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Speaking at the occasion, the Human Resource Manager for Offinso Forest District, George Amoah, stated the nation targeted over 35 million trees but exceeded it to about 42 million. He disclosed that the Offinso Forest district has for the past three years planted over 2 million trees with the support of the traditional leaders, the clergy, corporate bodies and other organizations.<\/div>\n
He pointed out that, if the national 75 percent target out of the number of trees planted were to be well catered for, it would have been of immense benefit to our health needs adding, the trees would have contributed to a better climate situation than the present deteriorating condition.<\/div>\n

Mr. Amoah urged the public to make it a habit by planting a tree every year for a healthy environment and asked individuals with large acres of land to plant them in commercial quantities to make a living out of it.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Other dignitaries who participated in the tree planting exercise included the Kontihene of Kodie, Nana Kwabena Agyei who served as the Chairman for the occasion, the District Police and Immigration Commanders and the District Co-ordinating Director, Mrs Yvonne Naboo.<\/div>\n
