The Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development has undertaken vigorous exercise to identify all pre- schools operating within the boundaries of the district. Most of these schools, before the exercise, were operating their day care sections of their schools without the inspection, supervision and approval from the department. This lack of compliance has led to a number of issues, including lack of oversight and accountability, potential safety and health risks and lack of support and resources for the schools.<\/p>\n

This report examines the extent of the issue and the potential consequences of not complying with the District Assembly\u2019s requirements regarding the operation of day care section of schools.<\/p>\n

During the exercise, staff of the department were tasked to identify all such schools within their respective area councils. Reticent information of these existing schools were collated and advised to visit the department to regularize their registration for a follow-up inspection of their facilities to be undertaken.<\/p>\n

The District Social Development Officer, Mr. Cheslyn Nutsugah engaged the proprietress and head teachers of private schools in one of their association meetings at the Buoho Assemblies of God Church. The team from the department has identified about One hundred and Fifteen [115] Schools who have not be registered or have not renewed their registration status with the department. The outcome of this intervention by the team has also resulted in an increase in revenue to the assembly.<\/p>\n

The Department observed that some of the schools were operating without having the necessary facilities which will help the kids such as the kids using the same washroom with the upper primary, some using mental chairs which can hurt the children as they sit and play with It, so the officers advice the headmasters to change those chairs to wooden ones so that the kids will be save. Some schools have a nice facilities and spacious classroom for the kids where they have all the playing tools around which makes the kids happy. They have also provided some learning stools which the kids play with and can also point at.<\/p>\n

In conclusion, the Department was able to reach out to more schools in the district and educated them on their observation and also gave them some recommendation which will help the school grow and the kids also enjoy their stay.<\/p>\n
