The outgoing Member of Parliament [MP] for Afigya Kwabre South Hon.William Owuraku Aidoo has donated about 500 pieces of mono and dual desks to the Afigya Kwabre South District Education Directorate to enhance teaching and learning.
The desks, comprising 300 mono and 200 dual, will be distributed to the needy schools within the district to help address the furniture challenges in some schools in the area.
In a brief speech during the short presentation ceremony held at the forecourt of the District Assembly, Hon. Owuraku Aidoo noted that quality education was the most integral component of development in any society hence the need to fulfil his pledge made some time ago to boost education in the constituency before he ends his term as parliamentarian.
The District Chief Executive [DCE], Hon. Christian Adu-Poku, lauded the MP’s efforts and gave insight into his support for the past 12 years for the development of education in the area. He emphasized that the MP’s gesture is a clear indication of the NPP government’s commitment to the welfare of the people.
He pointed out that despite the party going into opposition, developmental projects were still ongoing.
The DCE urged the school authorities and the students to ensure that the desks were duly kept and to uphold the maintenance culture.
Mr. David Akomea Asokwa, Afigya Kwabre South Municipal District Director, commended the outgoing Parliamentarian for the prompt educational intervention and hoped the donation would go a long way to tackle the inadequate furniture problem in the schools under his jurisdiction.
He pointed out the MP’s contributions towards the enhancement of education since he took office as director in 2022 have been tremendous.
Mr. Akomea Asokwa reiterated the need for school authorities and the students to ensure the desks were taken care of to prolong their life span.
