The Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly has distributed fertilizers, weedicides and machetes to farmers to improve Agriculture in the area. This ceremony was held at the forecourt of the Assembly on the 6th of September, 2023.
This free distribution of the fertilizers and weedicides was in line with the government’s flagship programme, Planting for Food and Jobs.
Speaking at the short ceremony to hand over the materials to the farmers, Hon. Christian Adu-Poku hailed the president for putting up so many agricultural programmes to support farmers and commended the government for making agriculture less laborious and rewarding through the planting for Food and Jobs initiative. He added that, the government has drawn various programmes to help farmers. The DCE donating the items indicated that, agriculture remained one of the most important sectors of the economy and must be given the needed attention.
Hon. Adu Poku assured the beneficiaries to work harder to increase productivity and also promised them of the Assembly’s endless support to make the work easier for them and to also improve livelihood.
The DCE concluded by advising farmers to refrain from planting crops on cemetery lands.
Mr. Peter Kwame Amoako, the District Agric Director on his part commended the farmers for their tireless efforts at providing food for the population. He added that, the District has great potential in agriculture and admonished farmers to always heed to the advice of the agricultural officers and take the education they give them seriously. He then urged the farmers to add value to their produce.
The Agric Director announced at the ceremony that this year farmer’s day celebration will be held at Aduman and so the farmers should do well to collaborate with the Agric officers.
The farmers put their grievances before the DCE, and he assured them that his outfit would address them accordingly. The materials were then shared among the farmers.
