FIRST ORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING

The first ordinary general assembly meeting of the 4th session of the 4th assembly was held at the District Education Directorate Conference room on Friday 31st of March, 2023.

The presiding member Hon. Clement Afriyie Oppong called the meeting to order in the morning.

The first presentation was done by Environmental Department on a project titled I HAVE A TOILET Project. The Bank of Ghana in collaboration with World Bank want to build 30,000 dollars’ worth toilet Facilities in urban communities in Ashanti Region which includes all the communities in Afigya Kwabre South District. The project is aimed at supporting the urban poor get a decent places of convenience which will in turn promote sanitation in urban communities.

The District Chief Executive added that the honorable assembly members should encourage their constituents to take advantage of this project to acquire decent toilet facilities for their homes at a subsidized rate.

After this, reports from ADHOC Committees on Ankaase community water project, builder’s brigade, and Tipper Truck related issues were brought forth for deliberations and acceptance.

The DCE Hon Christian Adu Poku presented the report of the Executive Committee Meeting which was held on Friday 10th February, 2023 to the general assembly.  The following recommendations were made to the general assembly for approval.

  1. All assembly members to provide 200 non-registered members to be enrolled unto the NHIS. It was advised that the assembly members should try and look out for the indigents in their electoral areas who cannot afford to get registered unto the NHIS themselves.
  2. A maternity block should also be provided at Aduman CHP compound to enable women in the area access a good maternity care.
  3. On security, it was recommended that there should be a Taskforce to support the police in their patrols.
  4. The committee also recommended that the Assembly should follow up on all drinking spots violating the bye-laws and also have their permits revoked with their place of work also locked down.
  5. The police should mount barriers to check drivers who take in hard drugs mixed with energy drinks for further action to be taken against them.
  6. Households were encouraged by the committee to have at least one fire extinguisher for the prevention of any fire outbreak in homes.
  7. On Agriculture, the committee recommended that the Assembly should support in the expansion of pawpaw nursery to produce at least 10- acre planting for distribution to farmers with the aim of ensuring that, the district becomes one of the hubs of pawpaw production in the region in the near future.
  8. Indiscriminate and unauthorized sand winning activities at Ankaase, Mpobi and Swedru should be checked to help protect farm lands and its produce.
  9. It was also recommendeds that a privately owned KG Facility at Mposu should be adopted by the Assembly in order to attend to their needs.
  10. Portable water should be extended to all deprived communities within the District.

These recommendations and 10 others were deliberated on by the house and the DCE moved for the report to be accepted and the house accepted the report to be used and worked on in the Assembly.

The DCE also presented to the house the numerous developmental projects that has taken place in the district under his tenure of office. These include the provision ultramodern school bus for Aduman SHS, New modern Toilet facility for the same SHS, provision of a new KG Block for Atrama community, The provision portable drinking water for some communities, provision of a decent toilet facility for Atrama community,construction of two major bridges at Bronkong, reshaping of roads in areas like Sasa-Bomso, Buoho-Wioso, Wawase and Apagya. There has been a construction of classroom blocks at Maase, Aboabogya and Atimatim. Construction of market at Kodie and Buoho and many others.

Other matters which discussed at the meeting was the ex-gratia for the current assembly. The Assembly members in the District proposed Five thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 5,000) to the management as their desired end of service benefit known as ex-gratia recounting that they would appreciate a higher amount even, considering the challenges and problems they go through in performing their duties.

The presiding member in His closing remarks thanked he DCE, the DCD, all Heads of Department, all Assembly members and everyone present for honouring the meeting and making it a success.
