AFIGYA KWABRE SOUTH DISTRICT ASSEMBLY CELEBRATES ITS HARDWORKING FARMERS

To celebrate Ghanaian Farmers for their enormous contribution towards the growth and development of the country, Afigya kwabre South District Assembly has celebrated the 38th National Farmers Day edition on Friday 2nd December, 2022 at Wawase to honour and appreciate the immense efforts on the part of farmers for their sacrifice in the direction of socio-economic growth of the District.

A number of dignitaries including DCE, DCD, Presiding Member for the Assembly, Traditional leaders, the clergy, Imams, Heads of Department, Staff of the Assembly, Unit Committee Members, Assembly Members and residents from various communities were there to grace the occasion.

Mrs Janet Asenso, a 38year old female farmer at Wawase Community was adjudged the overall District Best Farmer and the prizes she received were Motorbike Tricycle (Aboboyaa) 1Napsack Sprayer, 1Cutlass and 3 Cereal Storage Bag.

Mrs Janet Asenso has 3 acres of pawpaw, 5 acres of cocoa, 1acre of maize, 1acre of citrus, 1acre of plantain, 3 acres of cassava, half acre of pepper, 1acre of cowpea, 60 local birds and 11sheep at Wawase Community.

The Best Female farmer was awarded to Afia Sarpong of Aduman Community, Best Youth Farmer, Yussif Iddrisu Kobeda, Wawase, Best Cereal Farmer,Dramani Agunware, Apagya Community, Best livestock Farmer, Akwasi Asare Nantan, Ankaase Community, Promising Best Processor, Cecelia Sarfo, Ankaase Community, Best Cassava Farmer, Kwaku Owusu, Swedru Community, Best District Cocoa Farmer,Yakubu Abudulai, Wawase Community, Recognition of Best Local Economic Development Agro Process was awarded to Joyans Agro Processing, Aboabogya.

 

Hon Adu Poku Christian (DCE) in his submission commended the farmers for their hardworking, resilience and commitment which has resulted in noteworthy economic gains in the District and the country at large. He said the intensive Agriculture drive by the government has induced the youth to get involved in the farming industry to move the nation forward.

   

On his part, the District Director of Agriculture, Mr Jonathan Baffoe Darkwa appreciated the Farmers efforts to ensure there is always abundant food in the District and beyond. He traced back the establishment of Farmers Day to the 1983 famine of which our gallant farmers withstood the test of time.
